Beating Data Redundancy With Content Reuse

The Content Reuse Assessment is a quick and inexpensive test to help you understand the value of a content reuse strategy for your specific document collection.

Our testing has found most document collections to contain more than 50% redundancy, meaning you’re maintaining twice as much content as you need to... at twice the expense. It also means that you’re likely updating the same content multiple times, you’re risking excess errors creeping in, and you’re reinventing text that you’ve already written.

The Content Reuse Assessment lets you quickly find out where you stand.

Parameters:
The Content Reuse Assessment allows you to analyze a significant cross-section of your document collection and get back objective reuse statistics, as well as specific identification of duplicate and “near duplicate” instances.
  • For an initial assessment we suggest analyzing 5,000 - 10,000 pages. We can do as large a collection as you like, but that would increase cost, and should be a next step.
  • We suggest limiting assessment to 2-3 formats, preferably Word, Frame, SGML, XML, or Interleaf. Many other formats are supported – for example HTML, PDF, and paper – but adding formats may increase cost.
What you get:
  • Summary report with reuse potential metrics for your document set.
  • Detailed analysis reports displaying location and content of exact and close matches.

Graphic display of content redundancy
In this document set over 60% is potentially redundant - 39.25% with exact matches, and a further 21.59% with close matches

What does it cost and how does it work:
  • The cost of this assessment is $3,000-$5,000 depending on number of pages and number of input formats, and normally takes 3-4 days. Exact quote is provided upon receipt of samples.
  • Upon your acceptance of a quote, we provide a secure FTP connection for upload of your documents.
  • You select the documents from your collection that you would like included in the test.
  • Submit the documents to DCL via FTP or by sending us a CD or DVD (please make sure that you only submit valid documents that you would like included in the test.)
  • We process your documents through our process and prepare a full set of reports for you to download via our website.
