| In
this complex project, DCL converted over 30,000 pages of technical content
from a variety of formats to SGML. Materials, submitted at various
international SPE conferences, were authored by hundreds of members and
were therefore widely inconsistent in style. The materials were complex in
content and structure, and contained an abundance of both TeX and embedded
equations, as well as complex tables and images. A quantity of materials
were only available in hard copy, while the conversion of electronic
materials was complicated by the fact that they were produced in a wide
variety of formats that included MS Word, WordPerfect, PDF, and even in
Macintosh specific packages. |

automated conversion from typesetting tapes. |
