DCL converted procedure and standards manuals into SGML. Documents were converted from several formats: Interleaf, WordPerfect and even an internal format proprietary to GM. DCL modified the DTD midstream to meet new specs and the conversion process was re-engineered to incorporate these changes.


Glaxo-Wellcome

DCL assisted in the preparation of NDA filing by converting a number of formats, including paper, into a format acceptable for regulatory agency filing. Accuracy upwards of 99.99% was required.


Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation

Industry: Aviation Material: Maintenance manuals Issues: Effectivity tags
DCL converted Aircraft Maintenance Manuals for the GII, GIIB, GIII and GIV models from Bookmaster to ATA-2100-based SGML. These AMM's comprise approximately 7,000 pages. Effectivity statements were converted into SB-effectivity tags modified to ASC (Aircraft Service Change) effectivity. This project is long-term and is continuing now on an ongoing basis.

DCL converted this publishing company's Current Biographies and World Authors works into CD-ROM format. DCL was involved in all stages of the conversion, from initial design, through production of CD-ROM masters.

Industry: Automotive Material: Maintenance manuals Issues: Footnotes in tables, hyperlinks to graphics, proprietary DTD
DCL converted truck and automobile repair manuals from XyWrite to SGML for this automotive publisher. Tables were particularly complex, with many footnotes. Graphics were provided separately and the client's original numbering system was incorporated into the SGML hyperlink tagging for maximum efficiency.

DCL is converting highly complex technical documents from various formats to SGML, in accordance with an elaborate, proprietary DTD. Documents will be maintained in FrameMaker+SGML and the DTD/EDD were in a state of flux as the conversion progressed. Page image of documents are also being produced in PDF format.

DCL converted the industry-standard Machinery Handbook from paper and other formats to SGML, for publication in FrameMaker+SGML. Mathematical formulas were hand-entered and integrated into the SGML. Images were scanned or converted from a variety of formats. DTD was custom designed for this work; DCL collaborated closely with the DTD designers before and during the conversion.

DCL converted fifty volumes of monographs to a single electronic format so that I.S.Grupe could make the material available on CD-ROM. These monographs were collected over a span of twenty-five years by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. I. S. Grupe is a business partner of DCL. See case study.

DCL produces two monthly CD-ROM magazines for advertisers in Lebhar-Friedman's publications. Materials are graphics-intensive and often need to be scanned and extensively cleaned up. Often material is supplied in the form of rough sketches and DCL does full graphic layout and design.


Library of Congress

DCL, working as a subcontractor to System Integration Group, is currently converting a large volume of books to SGML for the Library of Congress. Materials (including a large law collection) are being converted from images and hard copy and are prepared both for further electronic publishing and for distribution on the Internet. DCL is responsible for all text-entry and SGML tagging. Approximately 300,000 pages of a projected 1,000,000 page project have been processed to date. Collections DCL worked on include the American Memory Collection.

DCL converted a large volume of technical documents, created in the Xerox Integrated Composition System, to SGML in accordance with the IMPS DTD. In addition to converting this critical data set, DCL developed and licensed a conversion suite to Lockheed for ongoing conversions of its legacy data set.

DCL converts technical manuals from Frame and EPS formats into three electronic publishing formats and cleans up, corrects and validates already existing HTML. Lucent's multiple clients have complex, ever-changing specifications. Target formats are HTML, SGML (DocBook DTD) and a proprietary document database format.
