Company History

Data Conversion Laboratory, Inc. (DCL) is one of the world's leading providers of data conversion services. It currently operates one of the most advanced facilities of its kind, with extensive capabilities to capture data and text from virtually any computer medium and format... as well as from paper and microfilm... and to reformat it to fit a client's new needs.

Having founded the business in 1981, the principals soon realized that data conversion was a major concern of their clients. And in 1984, the company began to specialize in data conversion applications.

Interoperability
Originally data conversion was primarily a matter of moving text and database files from one medium to another, one hardware platform to another, one operating system environment to another.

But as text and database representations became more sophisticated it became apparent that application interoperability was going to be the overriding issue of concern. Consequently, DCL's focus shifted to the more complex issues involved in moving data from one application to another without losing content, appearance, or structural information along the way.

Ground-breaking
DCL was in the forefront of industry efforts to develop data representation standards, and was heavily involved with SGML from its inception. DCL is now regarded as the premier facility for complex XML and SGML conversions, and its ground-breaking conversion technology, developed and refined over the past 12 years, has received extensive critical acclaim.

This technology, coupled with DCL's rigorous data analysis and project management techniques, enable the company to successfully complete projects that others deem impossible.

Cost effective strategies
The company now employs close to 50 individuals in a state-of-the-art facility located 20 minutes outside Manhattan, and in close proximity to New York City's major airports. DCL also maintains strategic relationships with several offshore data entry facilities, which enables the company to cost-effectively offer a full range of services to its clients.
